• Danville District 118 occasionally has to close schools due to inclement weather, mechanical failure, or health concerns.

In these situations we use our automated ALERT NOW system to notify all affected parents, students, and staff.  To ensure you get these calls, please make certain that your phone number is current in our records.

We also post closure information on the district webpages and district Facebook accounts.

The district weather hotline is 217-444-1725.

Local news organizations are notified of closures as well.

    This includes:

    Vermilion County First

    Factors affecting school closing:

    A. Temperature, wind, wind chill, snow
    B. Street conditions
    C. Bus status (available drivers, buses in service)
    D. Availability of staff
    E. Epidemics
    F. Individual schools may need to close due to a lack of heat, water, electrical power or lack of security

The Superintendent of Schools makes the decision regarding the closing of school.  The welfare and safety of students are the prime considerations in making this decision.  The Superintendent makes the decision in consultation with bus officials, etc.

If school is going to be closed for the day, the District will attempt to make and to announce the decision no later than 6:15am.

Due to poor weather conditions or other reasons as listed above, school may be dismissed early.  In such a case, the decision will be made and announced by late morning.  Early dismissal is typically one hour before the normal dismissal times:

    One Hour Early Dismissal Times:

    Danville High School 2:02 PM
Kenneth D. Bailey Academy 2:00 PM
North Ridge Middle School 2:45 PM
South View Upper Elementary 2:45 PM
    Elementary 1:30 PM

*Afternoon pre-school is normally cancelled on days of early dismissal.
