NEW Viking Perks & Bistro Coffee Shop
The Viking Perks and Bistro Coffee Shop has been in operation at Danville High School for the last 10 years. A few months ago, the teacher and leader of this student lead shop, Ms. Kimberly Fraser approached us with an idea to take the shop on the road, literally. The idea for the coffee trailer began.
On Monday, August 12th, Viking Perks and Bistro will open its window for the first time. Three students who previously worked in the shop will be serving the District 118 staff on Opening Day from 7:30-8:15 and 10:00-11:00. For now, the trailer will be serving coffee and other beverages, with plans to add food later this school year. At this time, the trailer will accept cash only, but has plans to take credit cards soon.
The coffee trailer will provide vocational opportunities and skills to special education students in District 118. Our goal for this project is to expand community-based access for students. Students are in the community to cash checks, purchase items for cooking lessons, experience hands-on activities and attend jobs. The goal is to expand vocational opportunities. What an exciting opportunity for students to assist in the development, management and day-to-day operations of a coffee shop. Students will all obtain appropriate licensure to ensure they are ready for a position in the community after graduation from DHS.
Please plan to attend and help us celebrate! For more information, please contact the Special Education Office at 217-444-1080.
