The Special Education Department of Danville District #118 ensures that a free appropriate public education is available to each student, identified with a disability, who is between the ages of 3 and 21. These services are provided to students who require special education and related services to address the adverse effects of their disability on their progress in the regular education curriculum.

Special education and related services are provided according to the student's individualized education program (IEP) and is based on the student's unique needs. This IEP is developed and reviewed annually by a team, which includes parents and school personnel.

All special education programs are monitored by the Illinois State Board of Education on a regular basis to ensure that the district is in compliance with all state and federal requirements. To learn more about specific policies and procedures for identification, placement, and the provision of services to students with disabilities, refer to the ISBE web site.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act

Students with disabilities who do not qualify for an individualized education program, as required by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and implementing provisions of this Code, may qualify for services under Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 if the child (i) has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, (ii) has a record of a physical or mental impairment, or (iii) is regarded as having a physical or mental impairment. Any questions about the identification, assessment or placement of students who qualify under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, please contact Molly Bailey, Director of Special Education.

New Procedural Notification Requirement – Related Service Logs

The District maintains related service logs that document the type and number of minutes of related service administered under a student’s individualized education program (IEP).  These services include speech and language, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling and psychology services, social work services, and nursing services. These related service logs will be available to parents/guardians at a student’s annual review IEP meeting. Parents/guardians may also request a copy of any IEP related service log at any time.  Please direct any requests for a copy of a related service log for your child to your building administrator or your child’s special education case manager.
