North Ridge Middle School, is located on the north side of Danville, next to American Legion Post 210 on Jackson Street. Originally built in 1961 as one of three junior high schools, the school hosted students 7th through 9th grade with a staff of 60. In 1980, North Ridge changed into a middle school with students in grades 6th through 8th. In August of 2016, North Ridge and South View Middle Schools consolidated. North Ridge now houses all the districts 7th and 8th grade students. South View became Upper Elementary, housing 5th and 6th grades. The school offers core curricular classes in language arts, math, science, social studies, health, and physical education. It also offers these electives as part of the daily schedule: art class, band, orchestra, choir, global detectives, GTT, and medical detectives.
North Ridge has a proud history of excellence in extracurricular opportunities. Students may participate in boys and girls basketball, track, and cross-country, girls volleyball and softball, and boys baseball. Other activities to enrich the lives of the students include chess club, builder's club, advancement via individual determination (AVID), scholastic bowl, spelling team, drama club, newspaper, and yearbook. The North Ridge musical extracurricular activities include the Redcoats, our co-ed show choir, the Radiant Reds, our all female show choir, the Redpeppers, our jazz band, and orchestra. North Ridge also has a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, which is open to 7th and 8th graders with a cumulative GPA of 4.25 or above.
With so many different educational core classes and extracurricular activities from which to choose, we feel that North Ridge provides an excellent education to meet the needs of every child. At North Ridge Middle School and Danville District 118, we are committed to providing a sound and well-rounded education for all students.
