Track
There are several events students may participate in such as hurdles, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, all the way up to a one mile run. There are also many field events available, such as: the long jump, shot put, discus, high jump, and the relays. Track is open to all students. Practices are after school five days per week from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The season begins the first week of March and lasts until the third week of May. There are no tryouts or cuts. All you have to do is turn in a signed parent permission slip, a current sports physical, and the team rules slip by the deadline. -
Girls Volleyball
Girls Volleyball
NRMS Volleyball starts the first week of December and runs until early March. Practices are held Monday-Saturday for 2 hours and involve a commitment of about 12 hours per week. There are try-outs to be on the 7th & 8th grade teams. Each grade level will have approximately 12 girls on the team. NR provides the uniform for this sport; jersey and spandex shorts. Upon making the team, the girls will need to purchase white knee pads and volleyball shoes (no street shoes). A sports physical, parent permission slip, extra curricular code of conduct and insurance waiver must be on file in order to try-out. Coach Taryn Owens -
Boys Basketball
Boys Basketball
All interested boys must have a sports physical and a signed parent permission slip turned into the coach before they can attend tryouts for 7th or 8th grade team. The season runs from October-February and involves games throughout central Illinois. The teams practice four or five nights each week for 1 1/2 hours at various times depending on the availability of the gym. Coach Drew O'Connell -
Girls Cheerleading
Girls Cheerleading
Interested girls must go through try-outs to be chosen as a cheerleader. Try-outs are usually held in the spring. This activity meets in September - February and involves two practices per week. Practice times are usually 3:30-4:30 p.m., following school two days per week. The time commitment for cheerleading ranges from two to ten hours per week depending on the game schedule. Parents are responsible for providing transportation from away games when a bus is not available as well as the uniform fees and shoes. A sports physical is required to participate. This season kicks off at the beginning of September and runs through November. There are try-outs to be on the 7th & 8th grade teams. Practices are held Monday-Friday after school and involve a commitment of about 10 hours per week. Practices are held after school or in the evening for 2 hours. North Ridge provides the uniform for this sport. The girls will need to purchase basketball shoes (no street shoes). A sports physical, parent permission slip, extra curricular code of conduct and insurance waiver must be on file in order to try-out. -

Be a part of a fun, competitive, and successful program! The baseball team is comprised of 7th and 8th grade boys. The sport runs from August to October with practices/games on a daily basis (Monday through Saturday). Players should bring their own glove as North Ridge does not provide one. Coach Mark Prina -

All 7th & 8th grade girls interested in softball may tryout. Practices will be announced in the Commercial News during the first week of August. You must have a sports physical on file to practice. Cuts will be made according to the number of girls trying out. The sport runs from August to October with practices/games on a daily basis. Cross Country
Cross Country
Cross Country is the first activity that a student may become involved in at NRMS. We begin training for the season with runs of 1-3 miles depending on your experience and age. The meets begin around September 1st and run through the middle of October. At the meets, the girls compete against girls and the boys compete against boys but they sometimes run together. The races are 2 miles in length for both girls and boys. We practice 3-4 times per week from 3:30-5:00 p.m. or 6:00-7:00 p.m. Any boy or girl in 7th & 8th grade can participate. To get involved, simply watch the newspaper at the first of August or call the hotline for an announcement telling when and where we will meet for the first practice. You must have a sports physical and a signed parent permission slip turned into the coach before you can attend your first practice. Coach Jim Robinson

Sports Physicals
Prior to trying out or participating in any athletic team, all students must have a current physical on file at school. Physicals are valid for 1 calendar year.

Eligibility
All students must be eligible (passing all subjects) in order to participate in any extracurricular activity (Ownership in Education Article X- Extracurricular Activities, section 3). Eligibility will be taken every week to comply with IESA rules. Students who receive a letter stating their status as ineligible are not to attend practice or an event for the following week. Students can be dropped from an activity due to eligibility status.

The IESA and/or its agents or designees may take, distribute and use photographs of student athletes, coaches, officials and other participants at such events and use the same for publicity, marketing and other appropriate purposes, including event programs. The member school will take appropriate actions to notify its student athletes, coaches and participants of this provision."
